The percent of NC adults who volunteer (i.e., the adult volunteerism rate), as tracked by the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, is well below the national average rate.

In 2003, NC was tied for 39th in the US and 8th in the SE region in this indicator of civic engagement.

Percent of adults aged 25 or older who volunteer at least 50 hours of free time per year to civic, community, charitable or other non-profit activities.
