Comments

NC’s preeminent position in manufacturing has been weakening over the last ten years, due in part to its long-standing concentration of textiles and other manufacturing industries vulnerable to global competition.

From 1996 to 2005, the percent of manufacturing employees in NC fell from 23.7% to 14.5%.
In 2005, NC was ranked 8th in the US in percent of non-farm jobs in manufacturing, down from 1st in 1995.
