Comments
NC’s property crime rate has decreased considerably in the last decade.

However, our national and regional rankings for this indicator, after declining during the late 1990s and rebounding since 2000, are virtually the same as they were in 1995--37th in the US and 6th in the Southeast region.
  Definition (What Is Being Measured)
Reported number of property crimes committed per 100,000 population
Source: US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Crime in US, Annual Uniform Crime Reports; rankings from Morgan Quitno & NC Office of State Budget, Planning and Management
Relevance (Why This Is Important)
The reported property crime rate provides a reliable indicator of non-violent criminal activity; lower crime rates are good news for a variety of social characteristics, including economic and community vitality.
