University of North Carolina Through its excellent undergraduate programs the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has has provided higher education to ten generations of students, many of whom have become leaders of the state and the nation. Since the nineteenth century, it has offered distinguished graduate and professional programs and is a research university. Fundamental to this designation is a faculty actively involved in research, scholarship, and creative work, whose teaching is transformed by discovery and whose service is informed by current knowledge. The mission of the University is to serve all the people of the State, and indeed the nation, as a center for scholarship and creative endeavor.
UNC - School of Government

Works to improve the lives of North Carolinians by engaging in practical scholarship that helps public officials and citizens understand and improve state and local government. Core components of the School of Government are the Institute of Government, providing educational, advisory, and research support for state and local governments and the two-year Master of Public Administration Program, which trains leaders for local, state and federal governments as well as nonprofit organizations.

North Carolina State University A progressive, research-extensive land-grant institution educating students for the 21st century and inspiring future leaders. It forges unique partnerships that generate economic development, and applies its research discoveries for the benefit of people in North Carolina and across the United States. A nationally recognized leader in science and technology with historic strengths in agriculture and engineering, NC State has outstanding degree programs in the humanities and social sciences, design, education, life sciences, management, natural resources, physical and mathematical sciences, textiles and veterinary medicine.
UNC - Charlotte UNC Charlotte is the fourth largest of the 16 institutions within the University of North Carolina system. It serves the people of North Carolina, with special emphasis on Charlotte, the nation’s 35th largest city, and the surrounding 13-county metropolitan region, which includes 1.5 million people. With enrollment approaching 20,000 students, including about 4,000 graduate students, UNC Charlotte is the largest institution of higher education in the Charlotte region.
UNC - Charlotte - Urban Institute The Open Space Framework is a conceptual plan that is intended to act as a reference and guide for preserving land for a wide range of open space benefits. The Framework contains consensus-based principles and criteria to be used by the region’s open space organizations to achieve the vision of an interconnected, multi-faceted open space system by the year 2020.
UNC - Wilmington UNCW is an active learning community that uniquely combines a small-college commitment to excellence in teaching with a research university’s opportunities for student involvement in significant faculty scholarship.The university offers a culture that fosters creative, critical and reflective thinking, lifelong learning, communication and interaction, a celebration of diversity of people and ideas, commitment to improving the quality of life on and off campus, ecological diversity and sound environmental stewardship and personal achievement and integrity.
