A.B.
began his employment career as a classroom teacher in
vocational education with the Granville County School
System. He was Industrial Cooperative Training Coordinator
at J. F. Webb High School in Oxford from 1971until 1983,
and also was head wrestling coach at J. F. Webb.
A.B.
was employed as executive representative of the NC Railroads
Association from 1977 until 1980, representing the railroads
before the United States Congress and the North Carolina
General Assembly.
In
1983 A.B. became district administrative assistant to
US Congressman Tim Valentine and held that position
for the twelve years Congressman Valentine served in
Washington. After Congressman Valentine left office,
A.B. served as special assistant to US Congressman Bob
Etheridge while he was State Superintendent of Public
Instruction. A.B. also served as director of the NC
Education Foundation under Mr. Etheridge. A.B. also
was elected and served on the Oxford City Council from
1981-1985.
From
1995-2001 A.B. was employed by BFI Waste Systems and
served as manager of government and regulatory affairs
for both North and South Carolina. He was elected to
the NC Senate from the 10th Senate District, representing
Nash County and part of Wilson, Halifax and Edgecombe
Counties.
A.B.
and his wife, Diane, reside in Nashville, Nash County,
North Carolina. They have three sons: Russ, Walt and
Will.
